New York online sports betting has been live since Jan. 8, 2022, when the New York State Gaming Commission licensed its first online operators. Bettors in the state can now choose from nine sportsbook apps.

Sports betting is legal in New York for anyone over the age of 21 within the state boundaries. You can bet both online or via retail locations as of Jan. 8, 2022.

Finding the best sportsbook is a personal endeavor, but we want to help you out. Consider things like welcome offers, the best odds, ease of use and search, and how quickly the app pays out on bets. There are other considerations as well, but below is a list of some of the New York Sportsbook apps.

New York sports betting apps welcome new players with several signup promotions, primarily bonus bets, bet-and-get promos, and deposit matches. With a bet-and-get deal, depositing and placing a small initial wager unlocks a set amount of bonus credits (such as bet $5 and get $50). Deposit matches match a percentage—or the full total—of your first deposit with promo funds. While these bonus credits function like cash for placing bets inside the app, they cannot be directly withdrawn and will expire if not used within a specified timeframe.

After the US Supreme Court lifted the federal ban on sports betting, New York opened the first retail locations in July 2019. Mobile sports betting was legalized in April 2021 with Racing, Pari-Mutuel Wagering and Breeding Law 1367-a. The first mobile app went live on Jan. 8th 2022 and is overseen by the New York State Gaming Commission.

New York is among the most diverse states in the country for professional sports teams. In the NBA, the New York Knicks have captured the hearts of many with a recent championship. The Brooklyn Nets are another basketball option. The NFL has two teams with New York in the name, the Jets and Giants (though both technically play in New Jersey). The Buffalo Bills are the only NFL team with a stadium in New York State. The Bronx Bombers, otherwise known as the Yankees, are among the most storied franchises in all sports history. The Mets are also a baseball team that plays in New York. Hockey cant be forgotten for having two teams, either, with the Rangers and Islanders both representing the major market.

You can bet legally on college sports in New York. However, there are strict stipulations to betting on them. You cannot place a wager on a college team from the state of New York. For example, you cannot bet on a game involving Syracuse if youre in New York. You cannot bet on any college sporting event that takes place in New York, so even when Duke plays Illinois at Madison Square Garden, you cannot wager on it. There are also no college player props allowed in New York sports betting.

There are multiple locations in New York that offer retail sports betting. The majority of them are at casinos, both in upstate New York and tribal locations.

Licensed Retail Locations:

del Lago Resort & Casino (DraftKings Sportsbook) – Waterloo

Resorts World Catskills (Sportsbook 360) – Monticello

Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady (Rivers Sportsbook) – Schenectady
