Progressive Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, is garnering widespread mockery for her “delusional” claim that FIFA World Cup fans rooted against Argentina due to the countrys “racist history.”

During a hearing on Tuesday, Crockett remarked that the World Cup “captured the imaginations of the entire world when they saw all of these people of color that was playing for all these teams.”

Addressing one of the witnesses testifying at the hearing, she said, “Ultimately, if you recall, the last two teams, it was Argentina and Spain, and it seemed like the vast majority of the world was rooting for Argentina or actually against Argentina. Right? And why was that? Just give me an explanation. If you could guess.”

The witness replied, “Spain had the best team, maybe thats why they were rooting for them.”

Crockett laughed and said, “Theres also a racist history that exists as it relates to Argentina.”

Though subcommittee Chair Rep. Timothy Burchett, D-Tenn., quickly moved the hearing along, social media was not so quick to overlook Crocketts claim.

Columnist Kelly Rae Robertson said, “Jasmine Crockett is insufferable. Another delusional take claiming a World Cup match was racist? Why is she still here — I thought she was leaving?”

The congresswoman recently lost her U.S. Senate primary to challenger James Talarico. Because she opted not to seek re-election to her House seat while running for the Senate, she is set to retire from Congress next January.

“I’m so confused as to why this is being discussed in a Congressional hearing lol,” political commentator and womens sports advocate Riley Gaines posted.

In another post, Gaines wrote, “Spain: Wins the World Cup That’s it. That’s literally it. Jasmine Crockett: RACISM!!!!”

“Rep. Jasmine Crockett is getting clowned nationwide,” conservative commentator Eric Daugherty observed.

“WITNESS: Spain had the best team… CROCKETT: There’s also a RACIST HISTORY! You can’t make this up. She’s too low IQ to be in the halls of Congress!” Daugherty wrote.

Agustín Almada, an Argentine economist, appeared to take offense at the comment, posting on X, “This is a blatant lie. Argentina started to get rid of slavery in our war of independence from Spain!”

Spain defeated Argentina in the World Cup final in New Jersey on Sunday. President and FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented Spain its trophy.
